At GamLEARN, we recognise that gambling-related harm affects more than just the individual. Behind every person living with a gambling disorder are partners, children, family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives are also deeply impacted. Being an affected other can feel lonely. You may feel isolated, unseen, and worried about your children or family stability, while also fearing judgment from professionals or authorities. These concerns can make it hard to seek support.

Confidentiality, Safety, and Trust
Confidentiality, Safety, and Trust
We know how difficult it can be to talk about gambling harm, especially when the Criminal Justice System is involved. Whether this is new to you or something you’ve carried for a long time, confidentiality is central to our work.

Lived Experience at the Heart of Our Support
Lived Experience at the Heart of Our Support
"Through my own journey of living with someone affected by a gambling disorder who also became involved in the Criminal Justice System, I felt lost. Too often, services focused primarily on the person’s recovery, with the assumption that if they were receiving support, everything else would be okay.
For me, that wasn’t the case.
I needed support focused on me my choices, my boundaries, my emotions, and my well-being. Finding someone who had been through a similar experience, who listened without judgment and understood the complexity of gambling harm and crime, was vital to my own emotional and mental health."
That lived-experience support shapes how we work at GamLEARN.

At the start of our CJS meetings, we invite everyone to check in by sharing a single word that describes how they’re feeling in that moment. We close the sessions the same way, asking for one word that reflects how they feel after our time together.
This simple practice creates a safe, supportive space to express emotions, and we are proud to say that most people leave feeling supported, hopeful, and uplifted, surrounded by others who understand and share similar experiences.
